Nha Trang works as a winter base from December to April if you skip the November rains and cover the visa for the whole stay. A visa-free entry lasts 45 days, a 90-day e‑visa costs $25 for one entry or $50 for multiple entries, and a studio rents for about $220-700 a month.

I file e-visas and organise border trips for people who winter on this coast, so I know where these plans usually go wrong.

When is the weather best in Nha Trang from November to April?

February to April is the best beach window in Nha Trang: dry air, highs of 27-30 °C and a sea at 25-27 °C. November is the wettest month, with roughly 270-360 mm of rain, and December dries out gradually. January is the coolest month, with highs near 26 °C and a sea at about 25 °C.

February27 / 2125about 15-25 mm, driest month
March28 / 2226about 30 mm

The table averages several climate sources, so the rain column gives ranges and temperatures can differ by 1 °C between them. Typhoon season on the central coast runs from September to November, so a November landing can bring grey days and a rough sea, and a first beach week fits better in December or later.

Which area of Nha Trang is best for a winter rental?

For most winter stays I would start in the north, around Vinh Hai and the Muong Thanh towers, because rent is lower there and the beach is a short ride away. The centre along Tran Phu street is walkable and louder, and it costs more. The south, around An Vien, is mostly villas.

  • Centre, Tran Phu and Nguyen Thien Thuat streets. You walk to the beach, cafes and restaurants. It is the loudest part of the city and the top of the price range.
  • North, Vinh Hai and the Muong Thanh complexes. Sea-view apartments in towers at lower prices. You need a scooter or a ride-hailing app to reach the centre.
  • South, An Vien. Villas and houses, often with a minimum lease of a year, which rules out a three-month stay.

For the full monthly budget of food, scooter and bills, my Nha Trang cost of living breakdown covers each line.

How much does a winter month of rent cost in Nha Trang?

A studio costs about $220-700 a month and a one-bedroom about $300-900, depending on the area. Rents peak from late December through Tet, the lunar New Year that falls in February 2027, and they are lowest in October and November, so the cheapest flats go to people who sign before the peak.

One bedroom$300-450$400-600$550-900
Two bedrooms$400-550$500-800$700-1,350

The table is a guideline from 2026 rental listings, so check current listings before you commit. City averages on Numbeo point the same way: about $405 for a one-bedroom in the centre and about $274 outside it. Internet costs about $10 a month. Electricity is billed on the state tiered tariff and air conditioning raises the bill sharply, so ask the landlord for last winter’s bills before you sign.

Is a visa-free stay enough for a winter in Nha Trang?

No. A visa-free entry gives 45 days counted from the day of arrival, under Resolution 44/NQ-CP, which runs from 15 March 2025 to 14 March 2028 and covers citizens of 12 countries, Russia among them. Three to five months needs the 90-day e‑visa from evisa.gov.vn, at $25 for a single entry or $50 for multiple entries.

Neither a visa-free stay nor an e‑visa can be extended inside Vietnam. For anything past 90 days you leave the country and return on a new e‑visa, so a five-month winter means two e-visas and one border trip. That border trip can start in Nha Trang: the Nha Trang visa run page has the evening sleeper to Laos via Bo Y or to Cambodia via Moc Bai, back the next day. A visa-free entry also needs a passport with six months of validity left on the date you enter.

The step that goes wrong is the payment. The portal rejects cards from Russian banks and some foreign ones, and a wrong port of entry on the form can get you turned away at the airport. You can fill in the form yourself in an evening if you have a card it accepts. At BestBus Vietnam I pay the state fee from my own card, set the entry point to match your flight and resubmit free of charge, with a refund, if the application is refused. The 90-day e‑visa service page says what is included. Send me your arrival date on WhatsApp and I will say how soon the e‑visa can be ready.

How do you plan a three to five month winter in Nha Trang step by step?

Plan the winter around the 90-day limit of the e‑visa, because that is the longest stay without leaving Vietnam.

Early start of a border trip: plan the e-visa re-entry before day 80
  1. Pick the arrival month. Early December skips most of the November rain, while October and November bring the lowest rents.
  2. Apply for the 90-day e‑visa on evisa.gov.vn a few weeks before the flight. The decision usually takes about three working days.
  3. Fly into Cam Ranh airport and book the first two to four weeks in a hotel or short rental.
  4. View flats in person during those weeks and check noise at night and water pressure before you sign a long lease.
  5. Decide before day 80. Either leave on a border trip and re-enter on a new e‑visa, or fly home. Border trips from Nha Trang run on a schedule, and the visa run from Nha Trang page lists what the day includes.

How do you get to Nha Trang from Russia in winter 2026/27?

Aeroflot flies from Moscow Sheremetyevo to Cam Ranh all year, 12 to 15 flights a week in 2026. AZUR air cancelled its winter 2026/27 flights to Nha Trang from seven Russian cities on 6 October 2026, so older schedules that still show them are out of date. Aeroflot also serves Cam Ranh from Irkutsk, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg and Vladivostok.

Fares from Moscow start at about 24,000 rubles one way in low season and reach around 130,000 rubles round trip over the January holidays. Cam Ranh airport sits about 35 km from central Nha Trang, a 40-60 minute drive.

How to decide: is Nha Trang the right winter base?

Nha Trang suits a winter of three to five months if you accept a wet November and plan for two visas. December to April brings 26-30 °C air and a calm sea, and a one-bedroom outside the front line costs about $300-600.

The flat can wait until you land, but the visa cannot, because an application refused a week before the flight leaves no time to refile. Tell me your arrival date and I will say which e‑visa type covers your winter.

Frequently asked questions

Does a border run reset the 45 days in Vietnam?

Vietnamese law sets no minimum gap between visa-free entries, but the border officer decides each time. A winter built on repeated runs carries that risk, which the 90-day e‑visa removes.

What happens if I overstay in Vietnam?

Fines for overstay rose sharply under decree 282/2025/ND-CP, in force since 15 December 2025, and deportation with an entry ban becomes possible from 16 days. The current text is on xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn.

When is diving good in Nha Trang?

From February to September. In November the sea is rough, visibility drops to 2-5 metres and some dive centres close.

Can a visa-free stay be turned into an e‑visa without leaving Vietnam?

No. Neither can be converted into another visa type in the country, so you leave Vietnam and enter again on a valid e‑visa. That is why the application belongs before the border trip.
