Vietjet Baggage Rules 2026: Carry-On, Checked Fees, Tips

Vietjet lets Eco and Deluxe passengers carry one cabin bag plus one small personal item, and the two together must stay under 7 kg. Checked baggage is where the bill grows: an Eco fare includes none, Deluxe includes 20 kg and SkyBoss 30 kg, and one suitcase cannot go over 32 kg. I would plan the bag before I buy the ticket, because the airport counter is the most expensive place to change your mind.

How big and heavy can a Vietjet carry-on be?

The main cabin bag can measure up to 56 x 36 x 23 cm, and on Eco and Deluxe fares it shares the 7 kg limit with your personal item. SkyBoss passengers usually get 10 kg. Vietjet can weigh the bag at the check-in counter and again at the gate, so a bag that passed one scale can still fail the second.

The personal item has its own size limit. A handbag, camera bag or duty-free bag should stay near 30 x 20 x 10 cm, and a laptop bag near 40 x 30 x 10 cm. Passengers report paying extra at the gate when a bag that looked fine at the counter turned out heavy once the jacket and the water bottle went in. My rule is to weigh the packed bag at home with everything you plan to carry, and to leave 1 kg of margin.

Before you go through security, check that the bag carries the Vietjet tag. It is a small step that avoids a stop at the gate.

How much does checked baggage cost on Vietjet?

Eco includes no checked bag, so you pay for a weight block of 15, 20, 25, 30 or 40 kg, and the price depends on the route and the date. Pre-paying is the cheapest route, and you pick the weight when you book. Deluxe includes 20 kg, SkyBoss includes 30 kg. Open the baggage price table on the Vietjet booking page rather than trusting a number from a blog.

Size limits are firm. A single piece can weigh up to 32 kg and measure up to 119 x 119 x 81 cm. Oversized items are accepted up to 200 x 119 x 81 cm, and a golf set up to 203 cm in total dimensions. If you travel with more than 32 kg, split it across two bags instead of arguing with the counter.

On a long stay in Vietnam this matters twice, because the return flight is often the one with the heavy bag, and a 20 kg suitcase over the allowance is billed at the counter. You can pay the weight online and take a Grab yourself, and that works. When do Vietjet check-in and boarding close?

On domestic flights the counters open 2 hours before departure and close 40 minutes before. On international flights from Vietnam they open 3 hours before and close 50 minutes before. Flights from Japan, Korea and India close 60 minutes before departure.

The gate is stricter than the counter. Be at the boarding gate 40 to 50 minutes before departure, because Vietjet closes the gate 15 to 20 minutes before, and a passenger who arrives after that will probably miss the flight. Some airports no longer announce boarding by loudspeaker, so watch the screens.

Can you check in online with Vietjet?

Yes, but only with hand luggage. Online check-in opens 24 hours before departure and closes about an hour before, depending on the route. It is not available with checked bags, for pregnant passengers, for infants under 2 years, for passengers needing assistance, or for groups of more than 100 under one booking code.

Step-by-step:

1. Open the Vietjet website or app and choose online check-in.
2. Enter the reservation code and the full name from the booking.
3. Select the flight and tick one passenger or the whole booking.
4. Pick a seat on the map: green seats are free, yellow are being selected, grey are taken and red are paid premium seats.
5. Accept the conditions of carriage and save the boarding pass to your phone, email or printer.

Keep the boarding pass ready and go straight to the security area.

What do the Vietjet fare classes include?

Eco is the standard fare with a carry-on and nothing else. Deluxe adds the checked bag. SkyBoss is the premium class with lounge access, airport shuttle, meals and pre-check-in. Promotional fares can start from 0 VND, but you still pay taxes and fees, and the bag is usually extra. There is no free food on board unless your fare or an add-on includes it.

How do you get from the airport to town with a heavy bag?

Take a taxi at an agreed fare, because it is safer than a meter you cannot check; taxis wait outside every Vietnamese terminal, and our airport transfer prices for three cities show what to expect. For a long ride, a bus or a pre-booked transfer is cheaper, and large suitcases ride in the luggage hold.

A heavy suitcase, a late landing and a taxi driver who quotes a different price at the kerb is the usual ending of a cheap flight. You can book a Grab on your own and it is fine for one person with one bag.
