Ukrainian citizens need a visa to enter Vietnam — no exemption, unlike Russians who get 45 days free. The fastest path: a 90-day e-visa from evisa.gov.vn, $25 single entry or $50 multiple. Done in under 20 minutes, no agency required.
What Changed (and What Didn’t)

Vietnam’s Visa on Arrival (VOA) shut down in 2022 — gone for good. If you see Ukrainian visa agencies selling “arrival invitations,” that’s outdated or misleading.
What actually works now:
- E-visa via evisa.gov.vn — $25 (single) / $50 (multiple), up to 90 days
- Embassy visa through the Vietnamese consulate in Warsaw or Bangkok — more paperwork, longer wait
- Phu Quoc exemption — free 30-day stay if arriving directly to the island by air, no mainland travel
For 95% of travelers, the e-visa is the right answer. Check out Vietnam e-visa processing times and what to prepare before your flight.
What It Actually Costs
Two options, no hidden fees on the official portal:
- Single-entry e-visa: $25 (625,000 VND) — one entry, one exit, visa closes
- Multiple-entry e-visa: $50 (1,250,000 VND) — unlimited entries within the 90-day window
Expedited processing (1–2 business days instead of 3–7): extra $10–30.
Pay with Visa or Mastercard. American Express is not accepted on the official portal.
If you plan side trips to Cambodia or Laos, or you are doing a visa run from Da Nang, go multiple entry — it pays for itself.

Get a quote on Telegram →Apply in 20 Minutes: Step-by-Step
- Go to evisa.gov.vn, switch to English, click “Apply now”
- Enter personal info: full name exactly as on passport, date of birth, nationality (Ukraine)
- Enter passport details: number, issue date, expiry date
- Set intended entry/exit dates and entry checkpoint — e.g. Da Nang International Airport or Moc Bai land border. Cannot be changed after payment, so pick the right one
- Enter a hotel address in Vietnam as your temporary address
- Upload passport photo: 4×6 cm, white background, face 80% of frame, no glasses, JPG under 2 MB
- Upload passport bio page scan: JPG under 2 MB
- Pay by Visa or Mastercard only
- Save your reference number — needed to check status later
Standard processing: 3–7 working days. Apply at least 10–14 days before travel. After approval, download the PDF and print it — some border agents require a paper copy even if you have it on your phone.
The Mistakes That Get People Denied
Entry checkpoint mismatch. List Noi Bai (Hanoi) as your entry but fly into Da Nang? Problem at immigration. Not all 16 land borders accept e-visas — verify before applying if crossing by bus at Lao Bao or Moc Bai.
Other common rejection triggers:
- Photo specs wrong: face under 80% of frame, dark background, or glasses on
- Passport valid under 6 months from intended entry date
- Under 2 blank pages in passport
- Applied too late — still “processing” on arrival day
I forgot to print my e-visa once. The border agent let me through after showing it on my phone, but it was a stressful few minutes. Print the PDF.
The Phu Quoc Shortcut
Visiting Phu Quoc Island only (flying directly from abroad)? Ukrainian citizens can stay up to 30 days, free — no visa required under this exemption.
The catch: once you leave Phu Quoc for the mainland, the exemption ends. You need a standard e-visa for any mainland Vietnam travel.
Overstay Is Not Worth It

E-visas cannot be extended inside Vietnam. When time is up, you have two options:
- Exit to Cambodia, Laos, or Thailand, apply for a new e-visa (a “visa run”) — full Vietnam visa run guide here
- Stay and pay 500,000 VND per day (~$20/day) in fines, risk deportation, and face a re-entry ban
Visa runs from Da Nang to Lao Bao (Laos border) take about 4–5 hours each way. Typical cost: $60–150 depending on whether you book transport separately or through a service.
