November in Da Nang is still rainy season, though a clear step down from October. This year’s outlook is milder than usual, with fewer storms and less rain than normal, but last autumn brought both a flood and a typhoon evacuation, so I plan for the normal month and treat a dry week as a bonus.

What is the weather like in Da Nang in November?

Da Nang’s weather station averages 448.2 mm of rain in November on 20.3 rainy days, with humidity of 84.7%, a daily high of 27.4°C and a night low of 22.1°C. That makes November the second-wettest month after October (628 mm and 20 rainy days), and December drops to 218 mm and 18.7 rainy days. Sources disagree on the total: another climate dataset shows a rolling monthly figure sliding from about 390 mm to about 220 mm over the month, so I read 300 to 450 mm as the working range.

The month is not one long downpour. The chance of a rainy day falls from 54% at the start of November to 41% at the end, the daytime high eases from about 28°C to 26°C, and the sea cools from 27°C to 26°C. I do my errands in the morning.

For 2026 the national forecasting centre (NCHMF) expects November rainfall from Quang Tri to Lam Dong to run 20 to 40% below the long-term normal, because a strong El Nino is building (Bao Moi summary of the NCHMF bulletin). The same bulletins warn of unusual storms and local downpours that flood cities, so expect wet days and some street flooding even in a month that comes in below normal.

How likely is a typhoon in Da Nang in November 2026?

Less likely than in an average year, but not ruled out. The centre’s outlook for October to December 2026 is about 4.5 cyclones on the East Sea, with about 1.9 of them reaching land, both below the norm. Two recent Novembers show what one storm does to the city.

Typhoon Kalmaegi arrived on 6 and 7 November 2025. Da Nang ordered people out of danger zones by 12:00 on 6 November, and for planning that noon deadline matters more to me than the landfall hour, because it falls before the weather does. School classes were cancelled from noon, and more than 537,000 people were evacuated across five provinces and cities. Six airports in the centre closed, Chu Lai among them from 19:00 on 6 November to 03:00 on 7 November, according to the government news portal, though Da Nang’s own airport was not on that list.

Typhoon Vamco in November 2020 did close it: Da Nang airport shut from 12:00 on 14 November to 10:00 on 15 November, and authorities ordered at least 460,000 people to evacuate. The storm made landfall on 15 November, so the closure began ahead of the weather.

Does Da Nang flood in November?

Yes, heavy downpours flood streets here in any wet month, and the worst recent floods came just before November. Between 25 and 31 October 2025, rain and floods in Da Nang killed 12 people, left 4 missing and flooded about 76,500 houses, with spell totals above 1,000 mm in places and a peak of 1,548 mm in one hill commune. Damage passed 770 billion dong, roughly 29 million dollars, according to Tuoi Tre.

The other benchmark is 13 to 15 October 2022, when the Da Nang station recorded 697.6 mm. Hoa Vang, Lien Chieu, Thanh Khe, Hai Chau, Cam Le and Ngu Hanh Son went deep under water. The forecasting centre blamed a mix of a cyclone, cold air and an east wind, the mountain barrier behind the city, a very short and intense burst, and a high tide that slowed the drainage. Those are the district names used in the reports of that day, so check them first; other low streets flood too. Because the tide made 2022 worse, I look at the tide table next to the rain forecast before I park low.

What happens to flights and visa-run plans when a storm closes the airport?

Leave at least three spare days before any stamp or ticket date in November. In Vamco’s case the airport was shut for 22 hours, so a flight booked for the eve of a storm is already at risk.

If your stamp ends on a storm day, a grounded flight or a cancelled bus to the border turns a lost day into an overstay. The border run is possible alone with a coach ticket and a printed e‑visa. The part I take over at BestBus Vietnam is the timing: I run the one-day visa run from Da Nang and I can read the forecast and your stamp date together. Send me your stamp date and I will tell you how much slack you have.

How do I get food delivered in the rain?

Order before the rain peaks, and expect to pay more when it does. Grab has a heavy-rain surcharge category in Vietnam (reported in 2022), so I check the total in the app before I confirm an order. When the city asks residents to stay indoors, plan as if delivery is off and cook from the cupboard.

What should I stock before a November storm?

Vietnamese legal portals that summarise official advice recommend at least 7 days of drinking water, food and medicine, plus a torch for power cuts. They warn against candles in closed rooms or near gas. The first day or two go to the storm itself, and the rest of the week covers the days after, when roads are flooded and shops are shut. If I have to choose between the two, I go for the full week on water and medicine, since those are the two things you cannot improvise once the shops are shut.

My own list: bottled water, rice, noodles and canned food, a torch and spare batteries, a power bank charged to full, and a printed copy of your passport page and visa. The step-by-step version is in my storm kit for residents.

What should I do with the bike and the flat?

Park the bike on high ground and under cover, and read your insurance before the season. Compulsory civil liability insurance (TNDS) covers harm to other people. Flood damage to your own motorbike is paid only under a voluntary policy, and then by the terms of its package. People tend to assume the compulsory policy also covers the bike itself, and after a flood that assumption leaves the whole repair bill with you.

A townhouse with open balconies: ask the landlord who repairs balcony doors and windows after a storm, and how high the water has come before

For the flat, ask the landlord who repairs a leaking window or balcony door after a storm, and which floor the water has reached before. The rent guide for Da Nang explains which floors and streets get wet, and the buy or rent comparison for motorbikes covers the paperwork. For October’s version of this month, see rain, flooded areas and gear care.

When the street outside is under water you do not want to learn where the nearest clinic or pharmacy is. Both are pinned on our Da Nang expat map, so open it on your phone and save the ones within a ten-minute walk of your door.

What should I check before the first November storm?

Check the forecast every morning, watch the tide table on flood days, keep a week of water and food, park the bike high, and leave three spare days before any stamp or flight date.

Reading the bulletin and rebooking a flight take one evening and you can do both alone. The hard part is a stamp that expires while the airport is shut, and for that case you can message me on WhatsApp with your city and dates, and I will say what fits before the next storm.

Frequently asked questions

When does the rainy season end in Da Nang?

Sources give no single date. Wikipedia dates the wet season from September to December, and December still averages 218 mm of rain on 18.7 rainy days. The forecasting centre’s May outlook put the heavy rain in central Vietnam as ending around November, so expect it to taper through December rather than stop.

Which numbers do I call in a flood or typhoon in Vietnam?

112 is the search and rescue line, 113 reaches the police, 114 the fire and rescue service and 115 an ambulance. Calls are free and the lines run around the clock.

Why is the 2026 forecast milder than normal?

A strengthening El Nino. The forecasting centre put the chance of a strong to very strong event at about 95% for November to January 2026-27. It expects fewer storms than the norm of 9.6 on the East Sea and 3.8 landfalls, and temperatures 1 to 2°C above average. It still warns that single storms can be unusual in strength or track.

Did Typhoon Damrey hit Da Nang in November 2017?

No. Damrey struck Khanh Hoa province around Nha Trang on 4 November 2017, even though it coincided with the APEC summit in Da Nang. It killed 14 people in Khanh Hoa and 142 across central Vietnam, with damage above 22 trillion dong, about 1 billion dollars.

What did Typhoon Kalmaegi do in central Vietnam in November 2025?

At least 5 people died, 52 houses were destroyed and 2,593 were damaged. Before landfall Da Nang counted 11 large and 57 small landslide points, and all 81 fishing vessels were in shelter.
